| Civil Society Platform on Sustainable Consumption and Production Conference and Workshop |
Szentendre, Hungary on the 13-14 October 2008 The event will be organised by the UNEP/Wuppertal Institute Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP), the Centre for Sustainable Design - University for the Creative Arts (CfSD) and the Regional Environmental Center (REC). In Europe, SCP has recently risen on the agenda in the policy process. The renewed European Sustainable Development Strategy has placed SCP among the seven priority areas, next to climate change and clean energy, sustainable transport, conservation and management of natural resources, public health, social inclusion, demography and migration, and global poverty and sustainable development challenges. The strategy called for the European Commission to propose an EU SCP Action Plan, which was launched during the summer of 2008. The Action Plan should help to identify and overcome barriers for SCP, to ensure better coherence between the different related policy areas, to raise awareness among citizens and to change unsustainable consumption habits.
